Rhetorical Analysis - How to Use This StrategyThe goal of a rhetorical analysis example is to convey a message that the writer wants to communicate, while at the same time making it more clear. As you proceed through the example, it is important to keep in mind the intent and the message the writer intends to convey. By performing this exercise, you can achieve two results: it helps you decipher whether or not you are on the right track and is able to communicate your message clearly and effectively to the reader.One technique for using rhetorical analysis as a strategy is to look at each paragraph. A good rule of thumb for this type of exercise is to spend a minute analyzing each paragraph. It is important to understand how the sentence is written, the reason it is written, and what you intend to accomplish with the paragraph. Knowing these things is important for determining what parts of the paragraph need to be emphasized and which areas need to be emphasized.Each paragraph shoul d be analyzed on its own. If you examine a paragraph side by side with another paragraph, you will find a variety of problems with the sentences in both paragraphs. If you can find a reason the sentence has been stressed or hidden in the other paragraph, you can modify the sentence to focus on that problem.The example needs to be analyzed in the same way when the entire paragraph is taken into consideration. After you have analyzed the paragraphs, determine what areas you would like to emphasize in the passage and what areas you would like to eliminate. In order to get a sense of the overall paragraph, you can look at the paragraphs from left to right, top to bottom, or top to bottom and left to right.The only difficulty with this method is that it will take a little longer than just looking at each paragraph individually.
